Launch Week Fun!

My debut novel, The Tension of Opposites, launched exactly one week ago – on May 25th, 2010. It was a crazy whirlwind of a week, and I could hardly catch my breath. But it was good. Oh, so good!

What did I do? The normal stuff a mother of two pre-schoolers must do – laundry, cleaning, bathing, clothing, feeding. I also answered that dreaded "Why?" question about a zillion times. I attended, and survived, two end-of-the-year pre-school parties. I didn’t forget to feed the dog. There was the pony-ride birthday party for one of my daughter’s friends, and a birthday cook out to celebrate my grandmother turning 92. Plus two more cook outs. One included a Slip-N-Slide (for the kids . . . well, kind of). All in all, it was insane.

But I squeezed in some fun stuff too!

Like going to Border’s at 10 a.m. on launch day and signing the 15 copies they had in stock. And actually taking one of those books to the register to BUY IT. Receiving my author copies was way cool, don’t get me wrong. But there’s nothing like walking up to the register of a Border’s and having them scan the sticker on the back of your very own book!

I received a very cool card from my wonderful husband. He’s the most supportive man in the universe. For real.

I also received a gift from one of my best friends, Lori. She sent me this delish cookie bouquet . . .

. . . .and a card that listed the Top 10 reasons I deserved a cookie on my launch day. My favorite reason of all: "Because you took a HUGE leap of faith and landed face-up on the other side."

I also went to the Books & Company at The Greene in Dayton, Ohio, where I’m having my launch party on June 3rd at 7 p.m., and saw a very cool display of my books. Here’s proof:

It was a fun week, that’s for sure. I wrapped it up with a very cool Twitter Chat Saturday evening. Lots of interesting people stopped by, and I had so much fun meeting everyone. One of my favorite questions was about which chapters I KEPT when I deleted all but five chapters of my manuscript during my lengthy revision process. I decided to dedicate a spoiler-free blog post to this very subject, so if you’re interested, check back soon!

And on Sunday, a very exciting article appeared in the Dayton Daily News Life section featuring me and my lovely little book! That was fun!

I would love to see you at the launch party on June 3rd! The Books & Company at The Greene is a great place to spend an evening!

You can even listen to a live band and cool off in the splash fountain after my signing!

Just for fun, I’m including links to the many places I visited in the blogosphere this week . . .
